Health & Wellbeing at Leighton Academy

We believe that a child’s health and wellbeing are the foundation for lifelong learning and success. Our whole-child approach ensures every pupil feels safe, supported, and valued—ready to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

????‍♀️ Physical Health

We promote active lifestyles through a rich PE curriculum and a wide range of sports and physical activities. Our spacious grounds and excellent facilities provide the perfect setting for children to stay active, build fitness, and develop teamwork and discipline.

What we offer:

  • Weekly PE lessons
  • Extracurricular clubs: football, netball, yoga, dance & more
  • Opportunities for all abilities and interests

These activities support not only physical health but also confidence, cooperation, and resilience.

???? Mental & Emotional Wellbeing

Creating a nurturing environment is at the heart of our school ethos. We want every child to feel confident, happy, and emotionally secure.

Support includes:

  • Staff trained in mental health awareness
  • Compassionate, child-centred approach
  • Dedicated support from Miss Lockitt

We’re here to listen, support, and guide children through any emotional challenges they may face.

???? Healthy Eating

We encourage healthy eating habits that support energy, focus, and overall wellbeing.

Our approach:

  • Balanced, nutritious school meals
  • Education on healthy food choices
  • Guidance for parents on healthy snacks and packed lunches

We work together with families to promote lifelong healthy habits.

????️ Safe & Inclusive Environment

Every child deserves to feel safe and included. Our school community is built on respect, kindness, and belonging.

Key features:

  • Strong anti-bullying policies
  • Inclusive practices for all backgrounds and abilities
  • A culture of respect and celebration of diversity

We ensure every pupil feels part of the Leighton family.

???? Parental & Community Engagement

We value the vital role parents and the wider community play in supporting our pupils’ wellbeing.

How we stay connected:

  • Open communication with families
  • Opportunities for parents to get involved
  • Community partnerships that enrich school life

Together, we create a supportive network around every child.
